Lores is unlike any instrument I’ve played recently. The combination of instruments makes this music library feel ancient and yet far from outdated. You’ll find combinations of horse violins and cellos alongside instruments like the shakuhachi and flute. At the heart of Lores is its intuitive 3-layered engine. However, while there are three layers on the surface of Lores, there are actually three articulations sitting behind each layer, thus creating a 9-layered instrument. I love the simple yet flexible approach Native Instruments have introduced within this engine. Lores gives the user full control over each layer and articulation without loads of small knobs and controls. You can easily combine any three articulations from the wide variety available for each instrument layer while layering those articulations with two completely different instruments that somehow blend to produce something ethereal, mysterious, and ancient feeling. The articulations for each instrument go beyond the standard sustains or short notes you might expect to introduce beautiful and haunting movement and organic drift. It is not at all far-fetched to say you could produce a fantastic film score with Lores alone. I am surprised and delighted at just how easy it is to create something beautiful with Lores. In fact, that’s exactly what I want to do!
